RESOLUTION #2013-3
NEVADA REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE
April 6, 2013
A GENERAL RESOLUTION TO TAKE AN EXPRESS POLITICAL POSITION ON THE MATTER OF THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT GUARANTEED TO EVERY CITIZEN IN NEVADA AND THE UNITED STATES; AND PROVIDING FOR OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATING THERETO.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Nevada Republican Central Committee does hereby declare as follows:
WHEREAS, Article IV, Section IV of the Constitution of the United States states: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
WHEREAS, the United States of America therefore possesses a system of government known as a Constitutional Republic; a form of government where the people elect candidates to represent them at the local, state, and federal level to legislate and make laws, but all of those laws must conform to a written Constitution.
WHEREAS, in a system known as a democracy, the majority rules, and the rights of the minority can be taken away with a simple 50 percent plus 1 majority vote.
WHEREAS, our Founding Fathers warned us against the failures of democracies, and forbade us to become a democracy.
WHEREAS, people in our country, including elected officials ranging all the way to the President have taken to calling the Government of the United states “Our democracy”, and frequently use the term “spreading democracy”.
WHEREAS, the phrases “If you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth”, and “If you want to take away the rights of the people, just don’t teach them they have them in the first place” are both foreboding, and unfortunately, coming true in America.
WHEREAS, words are important! Where once people using the term “democracy” to describe our system of government was thought harmless, it has reached a point where the lack of education has diminished people’s awareness of the importance of our Constitution. Now it is common for politicians to propose laws without even considering the constitutionality of their legislation, when that determination should always be paramount, and the starting point of any new law.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the members of the Nevada Republican Party do soundly reject the term “our democracy” when referring to our system of government, and will always seek to remind and/or educate people regarding the true nature of our system of government in the United States: A Constitutional Republic where the inalienable rights of we the people are guaranteed against both an overreaching government, and an uninformed majority.
CERTIFICATION:
The within Resolution was duly presented, discussed and adopted by the Nevada Republican Central Committee on this 6th day of April, 2013.
