The Nevada Republican Central Committee (NRCC) has adopted the attached resolution in opposition to Assembly Bill 274.
A.B. 274 SUMMARY—Enacts the Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote. (BDR 24-1021)
This resolution was passed unanimously by the 183 members represented at the Spring Meeting of the NRCC on Saturday, March 18, 2017.
We ask that you give the NRCC resolution serious consideration as the bill moves through the legislative process.

Resolution Supporting Presidential Elector System
Whereas, The Nevada Republican Central Committee affirms our support for the system of electing the President of the United States, popularly known as the “Electoral College,” defined by Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution; and
Whereas, Activists are encouraging the Nevada Legislature to adopt, and Governor Sandoval to sign, Assembly Bill (AB) 274 purporting to enact a compact among the several states to elect the president by a national popular vote; and
Whereas, Advocates for this legislation have failed to resolve serious concerns to include, but not limited to: the compact’s likely violation of the Constitution’s Compact Clause (Article I, Section 10, Clause 3), the inability to ensure electoral vote casting under the Twelfth Amendment, and the likelihood of a constitutional crisis caused by significant litigation between states precipitated by failure to adhere to any compact; and
Whereas, The current Electoral College model ensures separate elections within each state, containing potential fraud within a state, preserves the historical compromise between large and small states, which has served our nation well, ensuring presidential candidates seek the support of the greatest number of people and states, as the Founders intended; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Nevada Republican Central Committee finds and declares that AB 274 presents several known and unknown threats to the continuity of the government of the United States, and integrity of the Constitution, by injecting turmoil into elections for the President of the United States;
Resolved, That with the strongest possible conviction, the Nevada Republican Central Committee urges members of the Nevada Legislature and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval to vote no on and veto, respectively, AB 274; and
Resolved, That the Nevada Republican Central Committee directs the Secretary to ensure a copy of this resolution is delivered expeditiously to Republican members of the Legislature, and Governor Sandoval.
